Intestinal Health

Nestlé Purina scientists have made many important discoveries about how nutrition can benefit a pet’s gastrointestinal health. For example:

Nestlé Purina scientists studying the effect of nutrients on a dog’s intestinal system have found that certain ingredients, called prebiotics, help boost the production of beneficial bacterial in the gut and ultimately help to balance gut microflora.

By comparing the effects of a high fibre diet to a low fibre diet, Nestlé Purina scientists discovered that dogs fed the high fibre diet consumed fewer total calories, and thus a high fibre diet may provide not only a satiety effect but also help to reduce calorie intake in dogs and help in the management of obesity.

Nestlé Purina scientists specially formulated a diet containing fat made up of medium-chain triglycerides, rather than long-chain triglycerides commonly found in canine diets, as an easily digestible fat source for dogs suffering from certain small bowel gastrointestinal conditions.
