Ageing
Nestlé Purina scientists conduct studies to determine nutrient or nutrient combinations that will help advance the lives of older pets.
A Nestlé Purina study of elderly English Pointers reinforced the importance of dietary protein in helping to maintain lean body condition. As dogs age they become less efficient in metabolising protein and therefore require more protein to fully replenish their protein reserves and maintain proper protein turnover. Many inactive older dogs need fewer calories, so they should be fed less food or a lower calorie food than when they were younger. Nonetheless, it is important that they receive an adequate intake of dietary protein and other nutrients while reducing calorie intake.
